Sunny and 75 today, SoCal weather, where I grew up. Homesick. But how can I be homesick when I've lived here for 40 years? Strange. But I never reached the felling of Oregon being "home." Not even my favorite NW state, Idaho is. Here first for professional reasons, and the last 20 because my wife won't leave. So here I am. A sun-starved Pasadena kid in exile.

I too love my childhood home of Pasadena....I didn't leave until I was 70 years old tho. Nothing there really is the same anymore. I loved it best before the freeway and the open fields before Hastings Ranch. I moved to Idaho in 2009 and even tho it really isn't 'home', I do love it here (although it is now being seized by Californians moving out)! Home is really where my husband and Golden Retriever are.
ReplyDeleteGrew up in Pasadena myself, PHS class of 1957.
ReplyDeleteI attended Wilson Junior High and PHS also class of 1957.
ReplyDeleteI was checking out books on Amazon and ran across your name which sounded familiar. Back then I remembered a Bob Deemer.
Bob yep. A Jr and went by my middle name growing up. I also went to Wilson. Who are you? Did we know one another? About a year ago I saw Doug Lowndes and Maureen Peterson, who are a couple after death of respective spouses. Kinda neat. Maureen was one of two female nerds at PHS ha ha.
ReplyDeleteWho am I? A very bright, shy and somewhat akward young girl in the 8th grade who had a big crush on you. Now an aging 78 year old woman who enjoyed a multi-faceted life, have 3 great sons and a loving husband of 58 years who is the sunshine that comes in my door every morning. Now, before I leave, who was the second female nerd at PHS? I'm curious.
ReplyDeleteThe only girl I knew who had a crush on me was Janet Kazantgian, who I believe has passed. The nerd was a blonde named Mary something.
ReplyDeleteKazantjian?
